According to a recent bulletin of the New Jersey station, celery leaf spot was observed in a tielcl of celery in that state j in 1891, and is due to a species of fungus j whicb Dr. B. D. Halsted proposes to cali ! Phyllosticta apii. He says of it: "The phyllosticta beyins as a dull brown pi-.tch. The leatiet may be attacked ouly in une spot, which continúes to enlarge ■ atil the whole becomes brown and lifeless, followed by a torn condition. Two (ir three large, dead, shredded places iriay be all the' leaf contains. while the remainder is a healthy and deep green. This is a rapidly growing fungus, is particularly fond of moistnre and flonrishes in the síiade, hev.v found usually apon the younger or lower lc;i es. While e.xperimênts have not been made upon this leaf t fungos, it is probably truethat the saine reinedy as thatfor the ordiaary Uaf blight (cercaspora) applif'd in the : auie marnier would prove effective. It ;., important to begin early rith tliE ing."
