Dnïing the past year great attention ■ n viven at the experimental farn of C'.t.iw.. Canada, to the size of eggs aud the breeds that lay them, and Di; rector ( Wlbert in 11 report says: It is well knowu that the breeds whieli ie ïiiosi egga do not ahvays lay the largest. For instaure, take the Black Hamburg8, whicfa lay from 2ÜÜ to 340 per annum ander favorable conditions, bnt their egga ure much smaller than those of any other of the standard breeds. Ou the other hand, the Brahuias, whioh are credited with laying an egg of largo size. only lay 80 to 100 per annum, while there are a number of breeds whioh lay eggs of medium size and number. Agaiu, different strains of the same breed lay eggs of different size. Pullets do not lay as large eggs as they do when tliey are hens. Fowls which lay all winter do not lay, as a rule, as large éggs as the hens that have been idle daring that time and only begin to l'.iy wben the warm spring weather sets t m egg machinery in motíon. Eg.s laid by hens in confinement are not as large as the eggs laid by the saine hen when running at large. It will be said by one person that the White Leghorns laya small egg as cotnpared with those from the Plymouth Rock and Brahma. Soon after another person will be beard to express surprise ;:t the smal) eggs laid by their Brahmas or Plymouth Rocks as compared with their neighbor's White Leghonis. Some (.f the cgys laid by the farm buff Cocbin hens of the same aLe are remarkable in their differeuce of size, one hen laying during last month an egg weighing 2 nances, while an egg laid about the same lime by her t'ull sister only weighed l-;; minees. Both hens were kept in the same pen onder the. same conditions. In view of the diffevences noted above, the folio wing table of the weightsof eggs of diiïtxent breeda will be read with interest: PouDcla. Ounces.
