Supervisor Edwards, of Ypsilanti, yesterday told a good story relative to Ben Butler's aptitute at repartee, made fresh by Mr. Butler's recent death. Mr. Edwards attended a political meeting at which Butler spoke. It was after he had left the Republican party. His speech was interrupted by a man in the audience, who kept saying something about silver spoons. The audience prepared to throw the interrupter out, when Butler asked that he be left alone and room made for him so that he could talk to him a minute. Room was made and the man stepped forward still talking about the spoons. Butler said, "You area Republican, aren'tyou?" "Yes" said the interrupter. Butler answered with great impressiveness "So was I, when I stole the spoons. " The audience howled and nothing further was heard from the interrupter.
