Prosperous Negroes
Wlien tli9 war closed there were about C00 negroes owned by the Creek Indians. When they were free tlio Indians attempted to drive them out of the territory. The governnient wouldn't perrnit it, but made tliem citizens of the Creek nation and clothed them with all the rights and privileges of a full blood. The Indians were compelled to accept this state of affairs. For awhile they badly treated their black skinned brothers, heaping all sorts of indignities upon them, whicli wero torno with patiƫnt fortitude. When the lands were dividec the governnient gave them a pro rata ehare. They have increased in population, now numbering about 2,000, raisec respectable families and are doing well. - New York Advertiser.
