Visit of Legislative Committee.

Five members of the University legislative committees, accompanied by Representative Sherman, made their annual inspection of the University last Friday. The committee from the senate consisted of Senators McLaughlin, Hopkins and Doran, while Representative Moore represented the house committee. They were shown about the campus by Regents Kiefer, Cocker, Cook, Barbour, and Whitman, accompanied by President Angell.

The general object of the visit was to review the condition of the University, and get an idea of the justness of the appropriations asked for by the board of regents. The laboratories were made the object of a close scrutiny, especially the mechanical and physical. The museum, library, law building, main building, hospitals and various department buildings were in turn visited, the professors of the various schools taking care that the visitors had a good idea of the needs of their departments.

The co-eds were on hand with their $20,000 petition with which the committee was burdened. The three senators took luncheon with Mrs. Walker, a significant fact, for it is well known that that lady has the annex very near her heart.

The whole party dined with President Angell last evening, and the evening was spent in a thorough but informal discussion of the requirements of the University.

The committee was favorably disposed toward the electric lighting of the campus, on the basis of economy, the gas bills being enormous. The matter of a new administration building was favorably discussed. The committee expressed themselves as well pleased at the condition in which everything pertaining to the University was found.
