The first annual report of the board of regents of the University was made 50 years ago and printed at the Argus office. What strides science has made in that time! The report was worked off with a ''monkey-wrench anda cheese-box." Now it is elegantly printed on the lightning job press. Fifty years ago we had to get along the best way we could without any microbes or germ theories in our systems. Now we are so full of them that we wonder how our parents ever lived to let us live. Once, simply a little calf's rennet was all we could afford to have in our cheese. Thanks to the discovery of Dr. Vaughn, we can now have all the tyrotoxicon in it we need. We can also have trichiia in our hams, at no extra cost for production. But why enumérate ? We could go on till the day we were locked in the casket - with the patent side fastener, to keep us from getting up and disturbing the neighborhood - and still not compass the realm of discovery. Fifty years make a long straddle in science !
