The one-sixth of a mili bilí for the support of the University, which has been pending before the state legislature for some time, and which recently passèd the senate, was passed by the House yesterday by a large majority. The bill was reported to the House with an amendruent providing that the Board of Regents shall not authorize the construction of any new buildings until the fund created by the measure shall have accumulated a sufficient surplus to pay the expense of constructing such buildings, and enjoining the Regents to properly maintain the several departments of the University. An attempt was made by Representative Miller, of Kalamazoo, to amend the bill by making the rate of taxation one-eight of a mili, but this received little indorsement. Among those who spoke in favor of the bill, were Representatives Moore, Tatum, Kline, Watson, Buzzell and Davock. The bill was passed by a vote of 74 to 7. Those who voted in the negative were Buell, Church, Huggett, Miller, Morse, Wagar and Wildey, all republicans.
