While out huntinff recently James B. Peckham, a wellj known resident of Preston, near Norwich, Conn., killed a peculiar animal, the exact pedigree of tvhich he is very curious to learn. He ivas tramping through the woods ivhen his attention was attracted to the animal, which somewhat resembied tlie polecat. Carefully approachIng it in the rear he succeeded in killing it with a club and brought the freak home. The animal is about eighteea inches m length, and, with the exception of lts tail, is covered with fine, soft hair Df a dark gray color, tipped with brown. The head is of a very peculiar shape, with a snout-like th, and nose and ears that closely retemblé those of a raccoon. The fceeth are very long and sharp and ye7' regularly set. The tail is seer;il inches in length, without a hair, and a piakish white in color. The feet also are hairless to the ankle joints and are tipped with long, sharp claws, eviiently used for digging. There is a very slight odor about the body similar to that of a skunk, ind the animal is probably of that species. Nothingof the kind was ever seen before in the vicinity, and Mr. Peckham is very anxious to learn justwhat the animal is. He has taken care to preserve the body, and the curiosity accupies a prominent place in his museum.
