A venerable wonian living up town remembers Lord Byron very well, having often seen him in an extended foreign of her youth shortly before the )oet's death. "My father grew to know lim intimately," slie says, "and liked íim extremely. He always declared that rnuch which was laid to Byron's charge was false, and mach else the fault of the imes or of his peculiar life. He found íim what he afterward called him, in peaking of the acquaintance, 'a downight good fellow, not at all the Byron f history.' "
