One Sixth Mill Tax
Instead of making appropriations to run the University this year, the legislature yesterday passed a bilí giving the one-sixth of a mili bilí immediate effect. This will spread the one-sixth. of a mili tax upon the rolls this year and make it immediately available for the coming year's work. This is equivalent to a $189,000 appropriation. The passage of this bill will undoubtedly defeat the appropriation of $20,000 for the woman's gymnasium, unless the regents can see tfaeir way clear to give them a big slice of this year's appropriation which, owing to many pressing needs of the University, does not seem likely. The f unds are now within the control of the regeuts to spend where the money will count for the most.
