Detroit, May 8.- Willoughby Compton, ag-ed 19, and his sister Florence, ag;d 38, vvere drowned in tlie Detroit nver Sunday afternoon. While in a rowboat they tried to cross the towline of a barge, which capsized their eraf t and threw them into the water. Grand Rapids, May 8. - Emma Rottman and Cornelius Smallengange took a boat at North park Sunday afternoon for a rovv on the river. Shortly af ter leaving the float Miss Rottman insisted upon rowing. The swif t current carried the boat against the crib and Smallenpange stuck out his foot to push the boat off and capsized it instead. He grasped Miss Rottman by the hair, but the woman's struggles wore him out and both disappeared beneath the waters. Other boaters seeing the accident rowed to the spot and several men dived for thevictims. Smallengange was brought to the shore just alive, but his recovery is doubtful.
