Detroit, June 23. - J. T.Whitinp, tlie oldest vesselman in this city, died suddenly Thursday at noon. For many years he had been the ag-enthere of-the principal steamerlines bet ween Buffalo and Lakes Michigan and Superior. He owned the steamers Meteor and Pewabic at the time of their collision on Lake Huron in 1862, when the Pewabic was sunk with a loss of 200 lives.
