A marriage was prevented in this city, last Saturday, by Sheriff Brenner, who arrested the would-be groom on the charge of larceny. Dn that day Tacob Schmitter and Vliss Palmer came in from Pittsield with the purpose of getting a marriage license and being made ne. The sheriff, who had a warant for Schmitter, was looking for lim, and made the arrest before he ould get his marriage license. He was arrested for stealing a watch nd chain from the vest of Foreman ïgloff, of Nowlin's lumber camp in ittsfield. He had been seen in the icinity of the vest, but was not uspected until Mr. Egloff visited a lairvoyant in Detroit, who told him many wonderful things, including he fact that Schmitter had his watch and chain. When arrested Schmiter was wearing the watch. He has Deen in jail in this county at least wice before, once for forging an order at Chelsea, and again for tealing Congressman Gorman's ;un. He came to this country from ïermany, two years ago. The exjectant bride expresses her gratiude to the officers for getting him jefore the .marriage, which is now off.
