Death Of Capt. E. Bortle
Capt. E. Bortle, the landlord of the Franklin House, died Wednesday afternoon, of asthma, with which he liad been greatly afflicted for some years. He was seventv-three years of age and was boni in Columbia county, New York. líe became a carpenter and worked at his trade in Chicago, III., for six years previous to the breaking out of the war. He raised two compauies of troops and was elected captain of the lOth Illinois Cavalry. in which capacity he served until 1863 when he resigned and located at Kochester, N. Y., going into the hotel business. In 1871 he located in Ypsilanti, running a hotel and restaurant, and a few years ago became the proprietor of the Franklin House.
