Celebrated His Birthday Yesterday

Ex Governor Alpheus Felch celebrated his eighty-ninth birthday yesterday. The ex-governor is hale and hearty and can often be seen on our streets. No man in Michigan has ever been move personally beloved. No man ever deserved more fully the esteem of his fellow men. He is a gentleman of the old school, a man who was in politics when statesmen were in the front. A member of the state legislature at the age of 31, an honest bank commissioner at the age of 34, auditor general at the age of 38 and in the same year, Judge of the Supreme court, Governor of Michigan at the age of 41, Senator of the United States at the age of 43, he retiied from active politics at au age when many men are just beginning to achieve prominence. His was an honest and able public career, inarked with unswerving honesty and devotion to the interests of the people. Ex-Governor Felch is an honor to Ann Arbor. His is a happy old age.
