Ihe long distance telephone at last connects Ann Arbor with the outer world. Yesterday afternoon it was formerly opened in this city and a number of citizens including representatives of all the local press were present. Conversations were held with gentlemen in Chicago, New York city, Port Hurón, Cleveland and also points in Pennsylvania. Chicago can be heard much more distinctly over the long distance wire than can conversations in this city over the phone. The tones of the wire are distinct andevery inllection can be heard. It is a great advance over the old telephone system. ïhe system was completed to Detroit in February last.
