Grand Rapids, Oct. 11.- Floyd Haines was acquitted in the circuit court Tuesday of making a murderons assault upon James Ahern and a scène of wild applause followed the verdict. The parties live in northern Kent. Ahern, it is said, ruined Haines' sister years ago under promise of marriage and then lef t the country. He returned a year ago and has frequently twitted Haines upou his sister's misfortune. At a gaine of base ball last summer Ahern taunted Haines in the presence of his friends and Haines having a bat in his hand hit Ahern over the head. fracturing his skull. Ahern has recovered.
