Col. NB. Eldredge, 'the democratie congressman from this congressional district in 1882 and 1884, died at his in Adrián last Vlonday afternoon, aged eighty years and eight months. He carne :o Michigan while it was still a territory, after graduating from a medcal college and began the practice of medicine in Oakland county. In 1843 he removed to Lapeer and continued the practice of medicine there until 1852. In the meantime ie acted as justice of the peace, supervisor and chairman of the Doard of supervisors. In 1845 he was clerk of the state senate, and in 1848 was elected to the house. He was elected probate judge of Lapeer county. In 1853 he was appointed sostmaster of Lapeer, serving until 1856, when he was admitted to the Dar. He was the first man from Lapeer county to enlist in the war. He raised a cotnpany and before the regiment left the state he was promoted to major. Afterwards he was appointed lieutenant colonel of the Eleventh Infantry. In 1S63 he resigned on account of failing health. In 1865 he removed to Adrián and began the practice of law there. In 1870 he was elected mayor of Adrián. In 1874 he was elected sheriff of Lenawee county. He was elected to congress in 1882, and re-elected in 1884. He was several times prominently tioned in connection with the governorship. He was a great campaigner, driving through the district and greeting everyone with hearty handshakes and pleasant stories. He will be remembered by very many of our readers.
