Grand Rapids, Dec. 5. - S. A. Carno of the firm of Carno & Morton, f urriers, took $585 of the firm's money and went to New York a week ago to buy goods. He has written to his partner, Mr3. Morton, that he will not return. The money he took belonged to her, as he had no financial interest in the firm. Carno made love to his landlady, Mrs. Theresa Mendel, a pretty Jewess whose husband is dead, and succeeded in borrowing 364 from her, promising interest at the rate of $15 a month. Mrs. Mendel is sick from the shock, and swears she will kill him at sight. It is believed that Caruo will not return to the city, and his present whereabouts are unknown. He was a man of exemplary habita and associated with the best Germán families in the city.
