Serving An Execution
Robert Smith, of Ann Arbor town, was taken into custody ! day on what has been termed a! "body execution." This is the outgrowth of the trouble with the township of Ann Arbor over a sluice-way across the road in front of hispremises. One of the deputy-sherifts, while serving subpoenas, a couple of weeks ago, thought he would also serve the execution on Smith, but found the women of the household prepared to resist him with sticks of wood in their hands and setting upon the body of the person he sought to take in custody. Now the deputy is a brave man and in the habit of landing the man he goes after, but in this case he thought discretion the better part of valor and returned without his man. Yesterday, the officers took Smith without resistance, together with three iof his horses; the women advising him to come in with his stock, and singing "Annie Rooney" as they drove away from the house.
