Many years ago, when the now venerable Captain Bassett of the sonate was a youth, e was directed to place a snuiïbox in eaeh of the suiall recesses of the rear wall of the chaniber to the right and left of the vice president and to keep them filled for the Clays, Websters and other senators of the old school who were habitual snuff takers. The snufEboxes remain as a reiniuder of the times and habits of senators who made history. But Siey are seldom ñlled, as Mr. George of Mississippi is the only senator ■who uses -Detroit Free Press.
