Taxes Compared With Last Year

A comparison of taxes in this city with last year is of interest. The man who pays taxes on $1,000 assessment this year pays L2.00 state tax, $1.70 county tax and $6.10 school tax. If he paid his city tax last July, he paid 7.05 city tax. Last year the man who paid taxes on $1,000 ass'essment paid $1.50 state tax, $1.50 county tax, $5.85 school tax and $6.90 city tax. These figures which are taken from the rolls shows that on a $1,000 valuation, taxes have increased this year over last as follows: state tax, 50 cents; county tax, 20 cents; school tax, 25 cents, and city tax 15 cents. From this it wiH be seen that the main increase in taxes is due to the republican state administration, the state tax in this city being one-third larger than it was last year or the year before. Another way of stating this faet is that this year the city of Ann Arbor pays $10,971 state taxes. Last year it paid $7,761 and thq year before $7,885.37.
