The Cost Of Street Lighting

During the year 1893, the city of Ann Arbor paid out for street lighting the sum of $7,197.28. This is the amount paid for lighting from January ist to December 31. It appears like a large surn of money.but it hardly justifies an outlay of say $42,000, the amount which Marshall paid for a city lighting plant. The amount has been gradually raised each year as the number of lights increase until it is a good deal more than it was when the cost of each light was #25 more than now.
