An understanding of the relation between Chopin and de Pachman as composer and interpreter is essen tial to a true appreciation of the latter's playing. De Pachman is a Po!e, and possesses the peculiar characteristics of his race. Chopin has embodied these traits in his music, henee the fact that the interpreter Pachman so faithfully represents the composer Chopin. Four years ago, after a recital in London, the musical worlcl awoke to a realization of the fact that de Pachman was the greatest Chopin player theworld has yet seen. From that eventful concert, the progress of this artist has been phenomenal. Starting as a Chopin player exclusivelv, lie has shown that he is one of the great pianists of the age in every style. However, there is no doubt in spite of this, that in Chopin he is at his best. He was the only pianist who sustained himself in the face of the wonderful success of Paderewski, and his recitals have always been the occasion of enthusiasm. De Pachman will appear in the Choral Union series this evenng, and will play the following progamme: I. Sonata, Op.3T, No.2 Beethoven ("MoonligrlU.") II. Rondo Caprlcoioso Meadelssohu III, Fantasie, Op. 49 . IV. Ballade, Op. 47 -.- V. Nocturne, Op. 9, No. 2 V). Twe Eludes, op, 25, Nos. 3 and 3 VII. Two W altzes, Op. 70, No. 1, Op. ;4, No. 1 Chopin VIII, "LaGomlale," "L, oi eeau Vtais". Heuselt IX Sounett de Pe-trarque, No. 5, "Harmonies du Soir," Mazurka Brilllante Liszt As the Choral Union tickets will adrnit to all the concerts of the May Festival, it would be wise for these who have not provided themselves with such tickets to do so at once. We are happy to announce that negotiations are now in progress, which will result in bringing a fine array of distinguished soloists, so that this festival may beconie the greatest musical event in the brilliant history of music in the University.
