The legislatnre of 1893, by Act 178, made provisiĆ³n for the taking of a state census this year. Municipal authorities of incorporated cities and township boards are required to appoint enumerators, and it is made the duty of city and township clerks to transmit to the secretary of state, before the 2oth of May, a list of all such appointees. These enumerators are to receive a compensation of $2.50 a day for ten hours' work. The results of their work are sent to the office of the secretary of state for compilation. The compilation of these returns wil', be a work of vast magnitude, since the statistics required by the law are quite complete.
