A new family has moved to Birkett; name unknown. Mrs. Bowler visited her daughters in Podunk on Sunday. Robert Northard and family -were in Hamburg on Saturday. Dr. Wm. Taylor and wife spent Saturday with Lima friends. John Williams, of Webster, was on our streets last Saturday. Mr. Lathrop spent the first of the week in Livingston county. Mrs. Chas. Voorhis entertained her friend the lirst of the week. Chas. Stebbins was in Ann Arbor od business one day last week. W. D. Smith and Miss French were Ann Arbor vigitors, Monday. Mr. Staffan and wife, of Chelsea, spent Thursday in this place. Hugh McCabe and daughter Mamie were in Ann Arbor, Saturday. Michael Cummins was at the county seat on business, Weclnesday. John Mclntee was the guest of friends in Unadilla recently. Gordon Stannard and Chas. Smith have retnrned from the lakes. Miss Clara Dolan.was the guest of her Pinckney cousins last week. E. H. Carpenter-is assisting Cashier Newkirk in the bank at Dexter. Will and Buit Taylor spent Sunday with their cousins at Pettysville. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schieferstein, a daughte, Feb. 28, 1894. Clarence McComb, wife and baby, of Ohio, are the guests of his parents. T. Stroh and mother, of Honey Creek, spent Sunday in this place. Sam Reese and wife spent several days with relatives near Pinckney. Henry Stoup, of Ypsilanti, visited in this vicinity during the past week. Thos. Birkett is looking after his interests in Alabama and New York. P. Lavey, wife and daughter, spent Sunday with her brother in Putnam. The noblest and most useful lives are made up of small acts well done. Fred Kauska, of Fowlerville, is now employed by Sill & Quish as tinsmith. Mrs. James Wilsey died at her home in Detroit, last week, of consumption. Mr. Palmer and friend were visiting friends in Howell the first of the week. Fred Nordman, of Ann Arbor, greeted old Dexter friends on Monday. Ilarry Ilayes and wife entertained relatives from the village last Saturday. Mr. Carr and wife, of Hastings, have been' visiting their sister for a few davs. Tom Stackable, of Hamburg, was 1 the guest of his f riends the last of the l veek. , Mrs. Stockford enjoyed a visit f rom , lier sister several days of the past week. Mrs. Chas. Coy and baby, of 1 son, spent the past week with her sister. Miss Hinchey passed here Saturday on her way to Anderson to visit her parents. The opening of E. Croarkin's clothing store on Saturday last was largely attended. A number of the farmers f rom here attended the auction at Geo. MichelFs, Thursday. Andrew Reid and wife, of Silver Lake, spent Sunday with his brother and sister. Cliff Green and sister Minnie spent Saturday and Sunday with their sister in Hamburg. Floyd Vanriper and brother, of Fowlerville, spent Saturday and Sunday with relatives. It is rumored that Thos. Birkett has sold the hop farm in Hamburg to Thomas Shehan. Miss Loretta Shehan, of Hamburg, is being entertained by her grandrnother for a few days. Miss Tessie Reid returned home Saturday evening af ter a two month's stay with relatives in Ohio. The Ladies Aid society of the Baptist church met with Mrs. John L. Smith, Wednesday, March 14. Mis. R. Erwin was called to St. Thomas, Ont., last Monday, to attend her mother, who is seriously ill. Geo. Higgins is about to erect a fine house in Dexter village. B. Williams has the contract for building it. The winter term of the Dexter high school will be closed with public exercises at the opera house, March 30. Messrs. Vaughn and Buekaleu have shipped their long-wool lambs to Buffalo, their average weight being 115 pounds. Thomas Eagan has purchased Geo. Brown's farm in Hamburg township and will move soon. We are sorry to loose them from our circle. The jnany friends of Mrs. Kimball are sorry to learn she will make her home in Detroit after March, and will open dressmaking parlors in that city. Mrs. Adam Drew died at her home in the village Sunday, March 4,1894. 'The funeral took place from the Baptist church Tuesday She leaves a husband and three small children to mourn her loss. Don't expect too much frpm legislation. The laws do not have so very much to do witb yonr property. There never was a law enacted yet that would keep yon froni prospering if yon use the proper means, that is industry, economy and living within your ïncome.
