In thoparkof Tortworth court, Gloucestershire, the seat of Lord Ducie, is the eelebrated Spanish chestnnt, which is said to have been the first tree that was ever planted in Great Britain by rnan. This ehestnut is now over 13 feet in diameter and was an old tree in tie reign of Stephen. The Darley yew of Derbyshire is abont 1,300 years old, while the Ankerwyke yevv, near which the Magna Chflrta was signed, is about 1,100 years old; the yews of Fountaina abtoey existed at its founding, some 760 yeara ago; the yew tree of Fortingal churchyard is said to be the oldest tree of its kind ia tbe world, and theGreeudale oak of Welbeck, through which in 1724 a wj' was cut and a carriage and four driven through, is about 1,500 years
