The greatest event in the history of Michigan will be the great May Festival in this city on Friday and Saturday, May i8th and 19Ü1. The citizens of our own state, who are directing the undertaking, as well as the artists engaged from abroad and the productions to be given, all jive positive assurance that the event will make an epoch in the musical history of our state and city. No such an array of artists has ever before appeared in Michigan. The list includes Miss Emma Juch, prima donna soprano, of extraordinary ability; Miss Gertrude May Stein, a contralto of more than usual merit; E. C. Towne, the fine tenor soloist; Max Hemrich, baritone, an artist of wonderful attainments; Arthur Frudheim, pianist, V. V. Rogers, harp; Felix Wintnnitz, violin; Fritz Geese, cello. n addition to these solo artists the 3oston Festival orchestra, a great ttraction, will assist under the diection of Emil Mollenhauser and 5rof. Stanley. This organizaticn is compDsed cf ;o skilied musicians, who have )layed together for several years and have won great success in the musical festivities of New England and Eastern cities. This great muical undertaking is a public enter)rise having for its object the 'advancement of musical culture in Ann A.rbor and the state. The Choral Jnion, consisting of two hundred and eighty voices, well trained, will handle the chorases. Nothing approaching in excellence these festivals has ever been given here before. In addition to the evening entertainment there will be given a matinee on Saturday afternoon. No person with the least taste for music can afford to miss these grand musical entertainments.
