Bay City, May 10.- Last Friday nigbt three dwellings in Essexville were visited in one night. Monday night two in the south end of West Bay City were visited, and a number of others have also been reported. About a week ago the store of Stoebbe & Brenner. in Saginaw, was entered, the safe blown open and about 160 secured. Soine boys playing in the rear of an unoccupied house ou Madison avenue, uear Eighth street, found two gold watclies and a lot of pennies in an out house. Abor.:; b o'ciock a young man canie out of an adjacent house and began to look for the watches. He was eaught and taken to the pólice station. On searching him $80, a gold watch anda revolver were fonud in bis pockets. He gave bis nanie as T. E. Hainpton. Th officers thougnt some one else might be in the deal and returned. Two hours later he saw another fellow come out of the outhouse and called to him to stop, bui the request was not heeded, and the offioer fired at the man. A shot came back at him and the fellow started on a run, soongiving the officer the slip. The next morning a squad of pólice went to the room occupied by the two, and alter a loug search found their man in a closet. . 'hen an officer opened the door he made a move tor his revolver, but the officer was too quick and fired. inflicting a flesh wound in the man's arm. He then gave himself up. When arrested he carried Sï82, a watch and a revolver. He gave his name as D. E. Hampton. The trunk ovned by the two was searched and found to contain a lock piek, two jimmies, a crucible and a lot of cartridges. Several suits of clothes and a pair of lady's rubber boots were among the things. A great many of the stolen articles have been identified
