Hastings. May 23.- The t-ial of Asa Teiït for inurdering his uncle. Leroy Roirers, who lived alone in a little shanty seven miles west of tuis c;it}', is in progress her. The morder wrs committed very early on the moruing of Jan. 7. and was a ruost horrible one. Af ter shooting hiui tour times and stnashing in the skull of the old man, the ïnurderer, whoever he was, completed his bloody work by nearly cleaving the head of the viotiiu from his body by burying the blade of an ax deep in his neck. Various clews were traced which resulted in nothing until several circumstances were füllowed which ended in weaving about Asa Tefft of Watwon. Allegan county, a nephew of the victiaa, a network of evidence that led to his arrest. Tefït maintains his innocence. His relatives have secured ex-Senator Phil lip T. Colgrove, oue of the most eloquent lawyers ïu western Micnigan, to defeud him. The prosecution is represented by Hou. James A. Sweezey, county proseeutor, assisted by Loyal Ë. Knappen, oue of the bightest lawyers in thie part of the state.
