Manistee. May 21.- United States Deputy Marshal Brewster, with Deputy Revenue Collectors Baumann of this city and De Witt of Spring Lake, captured John Roening, who has been running an illicit still in the woods near Peter's Camp in Lake county. For several days the officers had been searching for the place, when they were taken to it by a person whom Roening afterJ vvards accused as being interested j therein equally with hiinself. The deputy marshal took Roening to Grand I Rapids, while the revenĂșe officer I brought the apparatus to this city. j The still is a very crnde affair, but i shows great ingenuity on the part of its maker. The main body thereof is a wash boiler with copper bottom in and about whieh are several ordinary tin lard pails and pipes have been clumsily soldered in. When arrested Roening said that he used the still for making sassafras tea, but large quantities of mash refuse were found about the piace. This is said to be the seconi illicit still that has ever been found in tbia state.
