Must Be Recanvassed

Lansing, May 23.- The supreme court has added another chapter to the ' history of the salaries scandal of 1891 and 1893 by handing down an opinión ordering a recanvass of the vote of 1891 in Gratiot county and a correction of the vote in Gogebic county. In the f inner, tho vote, 620 in favor and 1316 ngainst, was thrownout, and in the I ter the vote was raised 1,000, which aotion carried the auiendment by 1,287, while in reality it was defeated by more thau 400 votes. The opinión is j lengthy and the language severe. The court says there can be no question that the returns were falsified in Gogebic and one of the most flagrant frauds ever attempted in the history of this state was snecessf nlly carried out. The question of whether the state can recover back the salary drawn was pot passed upon, but the court says it is a very important question.
