Newton, Mass., May 23.- Fire broke out in the mansión of Colonel B. Haskell, one of the proprietors of the Boston Herald, at Auburndale. The flre started on the third floor and is supposed to have been caused by a servant's candle burning down and then catchiug the tablecloth. When the eugines arrived the flames were through the roof. The valuable paintings, silverware ano extensiva library were removed to a place of safety. The dainage is S40.Ü0Ü, which is eovered by insurance.
