Grand Rapids, May 31.- Memorial day was more generally observed than ever before, all business beiug suspended in the af ternoon. The uiorning's obïervance included a parade and address by Fred A. Maynard. In the afternoon hundreds visited the soldiers' home to witness the unveiling of the soldiers' monument. General L. G. Rutherford ■was president of tha day at the home, General B. R. Pierce, chief marshal, and Rev. John L. Jackson, chaplain. Department Commander Louis Kanitz made a brief address and officiated at the unveiliirg, and the address of the day was by Rev. Washington Gardner.
