Had A Naraow Escape
Bcchanan, June 4.- An excursión party of 20 well known people of Buchanan had a narrow escape from going over the dam of the Buchanan Power and Electric company on the St. Joseph river. The party left the power house of the company at 2 o'clock in President Engliss' steam launch for a trip up the river. While returning home in going under the bridge Ö00 yards above the dam, i projecting fcimber on the bridge stove in" the dome of the boiler, disabling the launch and enveloping the terrorstricken passengers with clouds of eteam. The launch drifted rapidly down the stream fcoward the dam, and but for timely aid of parties from the shore, it would have gone over the 16-foot dam with the helpless excursionista on board. Over half the number of üersons aboard were wouien aud children. After a long struggle the disabled boat was beached 2ö yards from the crest of the dam.
