Bay City, June 11. - A fire broke out in a sinall building on the north sitie of west approach to Thircl street bridge, and in half an hour the River View hotel, a frame building owned by Moses Howe and kept by Joseph Crow, the office and linie kiïn of Magill & McLaughlin and boathouse of Lind Brothers, were totally destroyed, and the upper works of the steatnbarge Williarn P. Thew burned away. A strong wind was blowing from the south, carrying the flarnes froin the steambarge Thew to the lumber docks of John Welch, wiiich by the united efforts of the fire tugs were kept froin burning. Magill & McLaughlin lost 25,000; about half insured. Lind Bros. lost $3,000 with no iusurance. Crow loses $3.500, with 1,200 insurance. Luibrand Bros. lose contents of a barber shop and Albert Applebeee, contents of a refreshment stand. The daruage to the steambarge Thew will reach from 5.000 to $10,000. A boarder at the River View hotel, known as George, was reading on the second floor and had to run through the flames to escape. He had his forehead burned and hair singed. Crow did not save even his coat. vest or bat. Mrs. Crow lost $100 in cash besides her watches and jewelry. Ten minutes after the fire broke out, the hotel had collapsed. The departments of both cities responded to the alarm. The end of the Third street bridge was burned away. Srnith & Boutelle lost a sinall quantity of lumber. The fire is believed to have started in Applebee's stand.
