Burlington will have a summer normal school, which will open July 8. A new Baptist ehurcli was organized near Bedell's Corners, Hay county. The Detroit, Hay City and Alpena railroad has surveyed a line from Tawas City to Aiabastar. J. W. Wilson of Otisville has been engageil tor the coming year as superintendent of the Tawas City schools. Henry Mathias of Bedford, Calhoun connty, was kicked by a colt and died from the eftects of the in jury. Thomas McMahon of Grafton, Kent county, comnntted suicide by eating paris green. Uespoiidency on account of iü health was tne cause. The retail grocers of West Bay City have asked the conimon council for au ordinanne that will protect them from the invasión of hawkers and peddlers. During a heavy thunderstorm lightning struck tüe spire of the Kirst Baptist church at Caro, ripping the roof completely open. No other damage was done. John Sandersfield, an old farmer living near Flint, was badly gored by a vicious buil which he was leading. Sandersfield stumbled, and before he could rise was attacked and terriblyinjured by the buil. An attemptto burn the freight depot at Standisb was trustrated by the tituply discovery of the flre and the prompt actiön of the tire department. A quantity of engine waste, thorouguly saturated with oil, üad been ignited and thrown under the buildinK. The damage was ligiit.
