A big gray goat walked the other day down Whitehall street. When he carne near to a vender's cart which stood, piled with bananas, by the curb on the east side of the street, he paused and surveyed the fruit with a fixed and expressionless woodenness of countenance. A man who came along as the goat stood there stopped and bought a banana. He stripped the banana and handed the peel to the goat. Then the man and the goat both stood there and ate - the goat with tmdeviating gravity, the man with a risingsmile. When they had finished, the man went on his way, the smile still playing on his features. The goat passed on with a countenance of unbroken
