Gaining In Population

Washtenaw county has a population of 43,516, a gain of 1,306 in four years, and 1,822 in ten years. The gain, however, has been in the city of Ann Arbor, which shows a gain of 1,640 in four years and 3,159 in ten years. Ypsilanti has 810 more population than ten years ago, but 18 less than four years ago. Outside of the two cities, the county has 316 less people than four years ago and 2,147 less than ten years ago. Ten years ago Adrián had 1,407 more inhabitants than Ann Arbor. Today the position is reversed. Ann Arbor has 1,594 more iahabitants than Adrián and yet Adrián has not lost in population in the past ten years. The gain in this city in ten years by wards is as follows: First, 478; second, 794; third, 632; fourth, 477; fifth, 30; sixth, 748; total, 3,159, or a gain of thirty-nine and a half per cent. Ypsilanti in the ten years has gained fifteen and onethird per cent. The townships fare much better by a comparison with 1890 than by a comparison with 1S84. Compared with 1890 eight townships show a gain and twelve show losses, while compared with 1884, only three townships show gains and seventeen show losses. Compared with four years ago the gains are as follows: Augusta, 53; Lima, 2; Lyndon, 63; Salem, 21; Sharon, 41; Superior, 9; Sylvan, 90 and Ypsilanti town, 67. The losses are as follows: Ann Arbor town, 292; Bridgewater, 20; Dexter, 23; Freedom, 42; Lodi, 30; Manchester, 60; Northfield, 37; Pittsfield, 16; Saline, 6; Scio, 52; Webster, 23 and York, 61. Compared with ten years ago, three townships gain as follows: Augusta, 86, Lyndon, 7 and Sylvan, 82. In ten years the losses were as follows: Ann Arbor town, 331; Bridgewater, 151; Dexter, 93; Freedom, 236; Lima, 16; Lodi, 92; Manchester, 334; Pittsfield, 115; Salem, 107; Saline, in; Scio, 301; Sharon, 107, Superior, 109; Webster, 89; York, 27 and Ypsilanti town, 51.
