Mrs. Polly tíruster died at the resiience of George Freeman, July 16th, at the advanced age of 98 years. S. P. Ballard, (the renowned writer and poet of Willis), met with a serious accident the other evening. Burt Finney was riding a bicyele and ran against him, causing him to be conflned in the house for several days. The hum of the threshing machine can be heard in all directions. Eeports say that wheat is below the average in quality and quantity. The Germán Lutherans of Sumpter and Augusta dedicated their church, Sunday. July 15. The building cost about $900. It is situated in the township of Sumpter, 3i miles southeast of here and three-quarters of a mile f rom Augusta's border. This gives Augusta another chance to boast of her church accotnmodation. While Torn Essex was cultivating beans, last week, the cultivator scraped souiething hard. On investigation it proved to be part of the tusk of a mastodon, and measured seven feet long. Peppiatt'a and Oollyer's traction engine must be in sympathy witli the strikers; tor, while crossing a bridge over Swan creek last week, she went througli, struck bottom, rolied over on her side and refused to go another inch. Captain George Bennett carne with his company of jackscrews and a wagon load of hemp guards to try and induce her to get up and move on. It took the skillful captain with his loyal jack and hemp guards about a day. She was found to be badly crippled and has been under the surgical care of blacksmith Holland for a week.
