Washington, July 2S.- The Democratie members of the conference comraittee on the tariff bill were prompt in reeummg their session. All the membere were present except Chairman Voorhees, whose absence was on account of Illness. The indicatioas are tbat there will be immeroui cbanges in the less important schedules of the bill. Just after 1 o'clock the conference adjourned for the day. The house members, however, iutend to have a meeting to prepare a reply to the ultimatum of the tiiriff conferrees. Immediately atter adjournment Mr. Montgomery had a con ference with Speaker Crisp and it is uniierstood that the Üemöcratic leaders of the house will canvuss carefully. It is said the house members of the conference were very reticent and listened without comment to the statements made by senator. There was no joy or exuberence exhibited by eitber side, and house members who were present merely said the situation was critical. A memoer of the ways and means committee, who is not one of the conferrees, stated that strong sentiment was developed in the house in favor of recalling the house conferrees and passing the seríate bill, as grave fears were eutertained that it was dangerous to continue the contest much longer. He said that in all probability a cali for a caucus would be clrculated, and that if an agreement was not reached by Tuesday night the caucas would be held at that time, with a view to pass the sennte bill with such changes as oould be gained.
