Chicago, Aug. . - There was the wildest c xcitt-meut in the markets and coru fl ic i uated over a range of 8}4 cents, while toe gyrations of wheat covered nearly 3 cents. During the first half hour there wiis Tdt excitement and September corn sol I as uigh as 61í ceats and May up to 57 oeiit, aü showim a marked advance from the day before. Shorts were for a time in a pifect frenzy aud greedy to buy everytbiug iu sight. But after a time the feeling quieted down aud the trading became comparatively tame. Tin n tlie holders began to realize and the ofi r ugs were geuerous; but it was soon íound that there was líttle demand, the i igj prices having appareutly bcared buyers away, aud the efforts to sell became more urgent, fiually resulting in a break o 53 cents on September cora and 4 cents ou May. September wheat sold off ')4 cents and December Vyí cents. On the way down the selling was frantic and the ■ x it' ment intense. September corn sold early at 59 cents to il) cents, broke to 53 cuuts and rallied to 54 cents aud at 10:3U -iay sold up to 57 cents and broke to 58 cents. September wheat sold up to 583 cents eariy, but broke to 55% cents, wuüe December sold up to 61}L cents and fell to 58% cents.
