The run of the fire department, Tuesday evening, was caused by the lamp in the incubator of Joseph Clay, of the sixth ward, getting in a passion and flying to pieces. It slung the oil with great recklessness about the premises and set the chicleen hatchery on fire. The department was promptly there, though the run was a long one, and such chickens as were not roasted "on the half shell" were treated to cold water. As they were neither salamanders to resist fire nor ducks to swim, the occupants of the hen factory fared hard. A barn standing near the incubator was saved. The boys of the fire forcé acquired a fine circulation of blood, and some millions of chicken-lice. By the way, the fire department needs a new bath tub.
