CHlCAGO.Aug. 27.- ColonelR. E. A.Crofton, cominander of the Fifteentli Uüited State3 infantry, was struck in the face by First Lieutenant B. C. Welsh, of company E., Fifteenth regiment. It is said that the attack of Lieutenant Welsh was entirely unprovoked on the part of Colonel Crofton. It was a po werf ui blow and Colouel Crofton seemed dazed, but quifikly recovered and ordered Welsh under arrest. The crime of assaulting a superior offioer in the United States army is oonsidered one of the most serious offenses and the penalty is dismissal from the ranks.
