Columbia, S. C, Sept. 20.- The state Democratie conveutioa was cal led to order by Senator Irby, chairmau of the executive committee. Over 300 delegataa were present, every county being represeated. A large majority are Tillnianites, only one deleijation- that frotn Charleston - beini couservative. The platform íddoisea the Ocala platform, hs well as the Chicaao platform; demanda the f ree coinage of silver ;it a ratio oí 16 to 1, and indorses the dispensar; lavv a the best solution of the iiij.ioi' q'iestion. An attempu to aenouBce President Cleveland was killed and no mentiou of the administraron appears in the platform. Tlie Charleston deJegation tried hard to get the couveiition to come out squarely on the Democratie platform and denouncp Populism, hut th ulïort was defeated by an overwhelming vote. The convention then uorainated John Gary Evan for governor: W. T. C. Bates, treasurer.and O. W. Buchanan.attorney generaL The nominees are all Tillmanites. The Charleston delegates announced in the convention that they would not aupport tha nominees. The anti-Tillman committee in view of the l'act that the convention falled to unequivocally denounce Populism, has called their oonvention to reassemble in this city on the "ch iaat. for the purpose of piaciiiB a ticket in oppooition to the one just nominated.
