5 New York will this fall prove th the scène of one of the most inter esting political struggles of many years. The nomination of ex-Vice President Levi P. Morton for gov ernor, by the republicans, gave the campaign on that side an interesting aspect. It was regarded by both parties as a strong nomination, anc a rescue, temporarilly, of the vener able vice-prident's name from obliv ion. Now comes the nomination of Senator David B. Hill to the same office, by the unanimous voice of the New York democracy. His nomination means his election. No other man that could have been named is so strongly intrenched in the favor of the democrats of the Empire state as Senator Hill. That Senator Hill should have preferred re-election as governor to a continuance in the United States senatorship, seems remarkable. But he is the choice of the democratie convention and will be elected. Senator Hill has not always been found in line with a majority of his party, but in his differences he has had the courage of his opinions, and today there are none who doubt his democracy. The fight in New York will be interesting, and Hill will win it.
