For Senator
The man whom the democrats of the tenth senatorial district have placed before the people for their suffrages, the one armed veteran, Chas. H. Manly, is one of the best known men in the district. He is at the zenith of his powers, a man of good parts, varied experience and a fighter from way back, but always in the open, never from ambush. When a young man he responded to his country's cali and inlisted in the First Michigan Infantry and served gallantly up to the battle of Gettysburg, where he lost an arm. Since his return to the arts of peace he has been honored by his fellow citizens beyond what falls to the lot of most men. He has held every office under the city government except president of the council, and 1 - ■ that is a new creation. He bas also served as register of deeds, dpputy county clerk and justice of the ■peace. He was also a member of the legislature in 1887, where he did good service for his party and the people. He did valiant service for the University at that time. Mr. Manly is never passive but always decidedly active in any position he is called upon to fill and his voice is always raised in the interest of the people. No public responsibility which he assumes is allowed to go by default. It receives as close attention as though it were his own private business. At the present time he represents his ward in the city council and he is one of the most faithful members of that body. He is a good speaker, as is well I understood by everybody in Washtenawat least, since his voice is always heard from the stump in carapaign times. He will make a lively campaign and when he goes to the Senate he can be depended upon to be just as active there. The interests of the tenth district will be safe in the hands of Senator Manly.
