OAKLAND, Cala., Sept.27.- T. J. Roberts, president of tha American Railway Union, recently wrote Mrs. Leiand Stanford in behalf of tbe strike wiio bad been reduced to destltutlon on account oí their inabillty to secure work. He has received au autograph letter (rom Mrs. Stanford la reply, rexrartiníj that it is not ia her power to relieve the distressed strike. She expresse her "obligation" to the gentlemen vrho escorted her from tha mountaius to Oikland. She says sbe sympathizes with the ■trikers, whom she kaows were led away by excitement and did not expecc to do the company wrong. Mrs. Stanford says she has made applicatiou to the railroad officers to replace the mea dismissed for couduct durmg che strike, but regretü that her entreties have been ignorad. She hopes that in time the men will be restored to their placea, and promises to continue her influauce in their behalf.
