LONDON. Oct. 11.- Sir John Astley, thi well known sportsman, is dead. Ho will be remembered in the United States as the giver of the fanious Astley cup, whioh wai so muoh coveted during the craze for longdistance pedestrian contosts. He was RP years old. Astley was best known as jolly Sir John. or "the mate." He was in the Crimean war as lieuteiumt colonel, and did goud service For tho rest of his life he was an all round sporting man, although he served in parliament for severa! terms.
