The People Are Awake
The republiean press hopes tnat continuatiön oí lug-ubrious reports concerning the condition of business will help to secure success for their party. But the people of this country are not so stupid as to confound false and exagerated reports with actual condltions. Moreover, they are not blinded by partisanship to that extent that they are to be led by the nose in paths which would terminate inevitably in the ruin of their prosperity. This nation has finished maintaining a policy, which, by excluding irnports, excludes exportation and interferes with the natural channels of trade. The people have awakened to the fact that legislation for classes is a detriment and injury to the masses. The condition of the' country is not what it should be. But it is improving in spite of the pernicious infiuence of the bad legrislatíon
